Top 10 Home Design Trends & Movements for 2011 – Bold Color

We considered our own insights, researched and talked with North American Interior Designers & industry professionals to bring you the Top 10 Home Design Trends & Movements for 2011. This week we took on the challenge ourselves to talk color!

While the use of bold color remains a strong trend in home design, the hottest colors tend to change from year to year and even season to season.

Pink was the “go-to” color for 2011 with orange, plum, blue and green as runners up. For 2012 you can expect to see a wide range of tones from red, yellow, green and blue.

Not sure how to select the right color for your space? House Beautiful offers inspiration in the Best Paint Color app available for download. What does it do exactly? With enlarged paint swatches and real-life room photos, you can sample, spin, clip, and save. Sort by colors, spaces, direction of light, even moods.

Something else to consider: Partner bold colors with earth tones (hot for 2012). This will allow the color to accentuate a space without overtaking it. Earth tones mixed with splashes of pink, blue and orange are on the newest paint chips from Benjamin Moore.

Nervous to try something new? Start with a smaller room in your home and see how you live with it. You don’t have to jump in with both paintbrushes, but at least get them wet.

Maybe you aren’t interested in painting at all, but still want to add a splash of color to your kitchen? Look to Capital Cooking appliances to make your own color statement. Our Culinarian series comes in 10 standard color finishes, but that’s not all! Choose any custom color your heart desires and we’ll make it happen.
